The hunt for Gachapon in my town.

Hey!

So I recently made a trip to GameStop with one thing on my mind: Gacha capsules obviously! I've been eyeing a few particular sets that made their way to the US and was really looking forward to adding them to my collection. But wait! Kit, aren't you a wholesaler? Yeah, I am, but I only have so many machines and in order to stay in business I have to prioritize what others like over what I like. That means if the option is between Demon Slayer and Kodocha, and I have only one machine to fill, Sana takes a sideline every time no matter how much I want a Zanjiro toy. So I get to hunt and play like everyone else hoping someone had the ability to take a risk on something I couldn't.

Not that I expect that risk taker will be GameStop, they'll sooner fill their store with nothing but Naruto before they give Hokuto no Ken a second look. But GameStop is the only chance in my area for Gachapon at all so luckily we've got 4. And Im just itching to play at all - But as it often goes with these little excursions, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

When I walked into GameStop, I was greeted by the usual array of collectibles, but I couldn’t find the Gachapon machines I was after. So, next stop! This time greeted by full on construction, apparently this location is pivoting a bit to do gaming nights. Friday Night Magic and Pokemon tournaments on the way. It's not my thing but if they want it to be an event center its good for me since there's more chance of gachapon being added. I was in luck, I spotted them in an odd spot hiding behind a T-shirt display. But they looked a bit off, instead of pop sheets I was greeted by hand written papers saying "Boku no Hero" on one and "Mistery" (yes, spelled like that) on the other. Mystery machines aren't uncommon, it just means the person had left overs of multiple types and threw them all into one.

This is fine I just want to play, let's see what's in that mystery mix! The first snag, mystery mix is $5, ouch. Mystery mixes are usually discounted, but okay, look, I need my fix so let's play. Next snag, they have no tokens. What? How do you play? The lady kindly offered to open the machine and let me reach in and just pick one. Well now I know why it's $5, there's no mystery! You just eye at them and pick the one you want. That ruins the fun for me so I'm out. Next location.

A quick Google search tells me the next one is closed. So to the mall! Of course, the mall, my savior! 4 machines in clear view before I even walk in. But alas, as I approach my joy is dashed, the machines are all sold out. The friendly guy at the counter noticing my disappointment says they've been out at least a month. They get bags of them randomly and can't get them to order in any predictable schedule. With a pout instead, my eyes landed on a shelf full of blind bags. They weren’t what I had originally come for, but they looked intriguing and—let’s be honest—im desperate.

I decided to go with the flow and picked up a handful of these blind bags. The excitement of playing and not knowing whats inside was the original plan anyway; I'll just have to live without the satisfying sounds of Gachapon and capsule popping.

I walked away with some Chainsaw Man, HunterxHuner and Aggretsuko bags/boxes. Honestly the blind bags aren't my cup of tea. I get far more fun playing Gachapon, I haven't even opened the blind bags yet! Or maybe it's because I was settling, I got the Chainsaw Man in hopes for Meowy, and Aggretsuko for Tsunoda, but HunterxHunter? They were on sale. Maybe I'll open them for TikTok later.

It wasn’t exactly what I had planned for, but I suppose I'll live. And the poor guys at the mall will have to live with me harassing them about when the machines are getting new toys.

So, if you’re ever in GameStop keep an eye out for those Gachapon. Some have them and some don't. If you catch them give it a try, as some locations sell out fast. Don’t be afraid to explore the alternatives though if you can't find any. The blind bags often have the same toys as found in capsules. You might end up discovering something new and exciting!

Happy collecting!
